Introduction to Jamia Farooqia, Karachi.
An International Islamic University

Ma'had ul Lughat il Arabiyyah wad Diraasat il Islamiyyah
(Institute of Arabic Language & Islamic Sudies)

During last few years, when certain slight changes have been introduced in the syllabus, another an important development is the establishment of Ma'had ul Lughat il Arabiyyah wad Diraasat il Islamiyyah (Institute of Arabic Language & Islamic Studies)

It was always a matter of concern among learned scholars that Arabic language (speaking and writing) should have its due importance in religious educational institutions in subcontinent. Also, after completing their studies students should have command over Arabic literature.

In this connection, there have been attempts in the Indo-Pak subcontinent but no major success could be achieved.

Seeking the Islamic education with the true spirit of Quraan, Hadeeth, Fiqh, etc., without lacking in knowledge and deeds could never be balanced whenever proficiency and excellence in Arabic language and literature is emphasised in these institutions.

Allah be praised, through the efforts of the teachers in the Jamia Farooqia, the institute is running very efficiently for the last few years where it is implemented successfully. The syllabus, which has been adopted as the course of studies is developed by the faculty of Jamia, also includes the syllabus of other universities of Muslim world to a great extent. Hence, the syllabus has originality and variety and the real aim is also not lost.

In this system of study all the subjects are taught in Arabic language. Communication in any language other than Arabic is not allowed in classroom or during any academic discussions.

Syllabus of Ma'had

As mentioned earlier, this department is doing special service to the Arabic language. The language of syllabus and medium of instruction is purely Arabic. For the benefit of readers, the course out line is given below:

Special attention to Quraan and Hadeeth

Since the Holy Book of Allah, the Quraan, and the Tradition of Prophet (Saliallahu alaihi wa sallam), the Hadeeth or Sunnah are the basic sources of Islam in all aspects, the the entire education in Jamia revolves around the explanation and commentaries on Quraan and Hadeeth.

The few distinctive features of lectures on Hadeeth by Hadhrat Sheikhul hadeeth Maulana Saleemullah Khan are as follows:

  1. The persons in the chain reporting a Hadeeth (Ruwaat, plural of Raawi) who comprise its Sanad (Certificate of Hadeeth) are discussed in detail so that the students may become aware of details of Asnaad (Certificates) along with the related books on 'Ilm o Asmaa ir Rijaal (Science of Names of Persons who reported the Tradition of Holy Prophet SallAllaho alaihe wasallani).

  2. Explanations of text of Hadeeths are made. And if any other Hadeeth, narrated in any other authentic book of Hadeeth, has more text, then it is pointed out and explained.

  3. All schools of thought are discussed with their perfect origins. Also practices of Sahaabah, (Prophet's companions) with refernce to the differences in texts of Ahaadeeth are described in detail.

  4. To solve some difficult points in text of Hadeeths, the authentic and commendable opinions of Hadhrat Shah Waliullah Dehlavi, Hadhrat Shah Abdul Aziz, Hadhrat Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi, Sheikh ul Hind Hadhrat Mahmud Hasan, Hadhrat Anwar Shah Kashmiri are also presented.

  5. The difference in words or certificates of Ahaadeeth are also fully explained.

  6. Modern day problems relating to Hadeeths, 'Aqaaid ((Faith), Ethics and other fields are also discussed, argued and debated.
